Product Description

A tribute to nature and vegetables.

In 2008, the photographer Thomas Dhellemmes received an order to exhibit at the International Festival of Culinary Photography. He turned naturally to the Polaroid camera, a technique he was already working for ten years. The Polaroid brand had just gone bankrupt, and he started to seek urgently the last boxes of Polaroid 600 films in Paris. He found a dozen, enough to make a hundred images, the challenge was to give each image a unique character.  This photo sequence was already anachronistic by the use of a Polaroid, 40 years old. This book is devoted to a series of ancient and forgotten heirloom vegetables in the Potager du Roi (the king's vegetable garden) in Versailles, pushing us to reflect on their beauty and transience.

Far from existing codes of beauty, these vegetables all have different forms, more or less abstract colors emerging on the black background selected by the photographer. Old varieties of vegetables or "forgotten" ones have somewhat bizarre shapes, antiquated, far from industry standards.

A beautiful book printed on Gardapat 13 Kiara 115 paper with high density inks, 40 four-color format, and Japanese binding. This is a pictorial/photo book. It does not contain recipes.

In French and some English. 100 pages. Size: 10x12x1 inches.

Limited edition. Only 500 copies were printed.
